On 18 December 2014 the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee adopted a resolution (116 in favor, 20 against, 53 abstentions) condemning the systematic, widespread and gross violations of human rights in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), including those that amount to crimes against humanity; encouraging the UN Security Council to refer the situation to the International Criminal Court; and recalling that the DPRK government bears the responsibility to protect its population.
