Resolution 58/25 (Syria) A/HRC/RES/58/25

4 April 2025

On 4 April the UN Human Rights Council adopted Resolution 58/25, which renewed the mandate of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) on Syria for one year and requests the Office of the High Commissioner to strengthen the resources of the CoI for it to completely fulfill its mandate, in particular security and logistical support and victim protection expertise. The resolution welcomed “the end of the former Syrian regime in December 2024, which had failed to meet its responsibility to protect the Syrian population.” The resolution also expressed support for civil society, human rights defenders, victims, survivors and their families and for their continued role in Syrian-led, Syrian-owned, inclusive and victim-centred transitional justice and accountability efforts.
