During every regular session the Human Rights Council passes a resolution on the human rights situation in Syria. On 23 June 2017 the Human Rights Council adopted a resolution demanding that the Syrian authorities cooperate fully with the Human Rights Council and the Commission of Inquiry by granting it immediate, full and unfettered access throughout the country; demanding that the Syrian authorities facilitate, and all other parties to the conflict do not hinder, the full, immediate and safe access of the UN and humanitarian actors; and demanding that the Syrian authorities meet their responsibility to protect the Syrian population. Furthermore this resolution welcomes the creation of the International Independent and Impartial Investigative Mechanism for mass atrocity crimes in Syria created in December 2016 by the UN General Assembly.
