Resolution 2731 (South Sudan) S/RES/2731

30 May 2024

On 30 May 2024 the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2731 on the situation in South Sudan. Resolution 2731 renewed the sanctions regime, including targeted sanctions and an arms embargo, until 31 May 2025, as well as the mandate of the Panel of Experts of the 2206 South Sudan Sanctions Committee until 1 July 2025. The resolution emphasizes that “the RTGNU bears the primary responsibility to protect its population from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity, and expressing concern that, despite the signing of the Revitalised Agreement, violations and abuses including those involving gender-based violence continue to occur, which may amount to international crimes, including war crimes and crimes against humanity.”
