On 14 November 2022 the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2659 on the situation in the Central African Republic (CAR). Resolution 2659 extends the mandate of the UN peacekeeping mission in CAR (MINUSCA) until 15 November 2023, with a mandate that prioritizes the protection of civilians. The resolution also recalls “that the CAR authorities have the primary responsibility to protect all populations in the CAR, including from international crimes.”
