Resolution 2339 (Central African Republic) S/RES/2339

27 January 2017

On 27 January 2017 the UN Security Council passed Resolution 2339 on the situation in the Central African Republic (CAR). Resolution 2339 expresses concern over the deteriorating situation in the CAR. The resolution recalls that “the CAR bears the primary responsibility to protect all populations within its territory from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity,” and calls on the government of the CAR to move swiftly to implement transparent reconciliation efforts to avert future violence.
