Resolution 2301 (Central African Republic) S/RES/2301

On 26 July 2016 the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2301 on the Central African Republic (CAR). The resolution calls upon the government of CAR to hold perpetrators of atrocities accountable and urged all armed groups to lay down their arms and respect the peace process. Additionally the resolution recalls that the “CAR Authorities have the primary responsibility to protect all populations in the CAR in particular from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.” Lastly, the resolution extends the mandate of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) through 15 November 2017.
