Political Declaration on Suspension of Veto Powers in Cases of Mass Atrocities

In August 2015, France, with the support of Mexico, launched the ‘Political Declaration on Suspension of Veto Powers in Cases of Mass Atrocity,’ aimed at securing voluntary restraint on the use of the veto by the Permanent Members of the UN Security Council when faced with mass atrocities.

As of July 2022, 104 member states and 2 UN observers have signed the declaration.
